The Rev. Ken Malcolm is seminary director of admissions

The Rev. Ken Malcolm – an experienced educator and communicator – has been named director of admissions at the Episcopal Seminary of the Southwest.
Malcolm, a Seminary of the Southwest 2007 graduate, was program director and executive staff member of the Diocese of Virginia before coming to Austin for theological studies in 2004.
“Ken has extensive academic experience and knows both our seminary and the Episcopal Church very well,” said the Very Rev. Douglas Travis, D.Min., dean and president of the Seminary of the Southwest. “He distinguished himself as coordinator and host of the church’s annual Seminarian Leadership Conference that was held at our seminary in September 2006,” Dean Travis said.
The conference of student leaders from the 11 Episcopal seminaries focused on “It is all about Relationships.” “Taking the Trinitarian model and using the seminary’s Conversation Covenant as a guide, we lived the gospel with our guests and had difficult conversations about divisive issues in our church today,” said Malcolm.
Malcolm, 44, earned the bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from Austin College and the master’s degree in medieval history from Texas Tech University. He was coordinator of Oklahoma State University’s Outdoor Adventure program before joining the Virginia diocesan staff.
During his studies at the Seminary of the Southwest, Malcolm was permanent sacristan for two years, a student council representative, received a Seminary Consultation of Mission (SCOM) grant and was selected to attend the Episcopal Excellence in Preaching Conference in 2006. Malcolm was an associate clergy at St. David’s Episcopal Church and taught theology part-time at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School – both in Austin – at the time of his appointment.
