Missionary
Orientation Jan. 8-21 on campus

The third annual Domestic
and Foreign Missionary Society (DFMS) orientation for missionaries
will take place on the ETSS campus January 8-21.
Twenty persons from
21 dioceses will gather in Rather House for daily discussion of
mission theology, cultural dynamics, interfaith relations and
living a missionary identity. The overall theme for the session
is "Missionaries and the Era of the Windsor Report."
As the Anglican Communion
continues it discussion of the Windsor Report, no missionaries
have been asked to leave their ministries by the bishops who host
them, the Rev. Jane Butterfield, mission personnel officer of
the Episcopal Church, reports.
Boding well for the
future of missionary work, about 40 per cent of the trainees are
members of the Young Adult Service Corps (YASC) and under the
age of 30. Included in the group is the first YASC married couple.
The missionaries will
be commissioned at the end of the orientation and begin their
journeys to Africa, the Americas, and Europe. Returning to campus
will be the Rev. Susan Buell (ETSS MDiv '77 and D.D. '96), of
the Diocese of Northwest Pennsylvania, who has been a missionary
in Spain for six months.
