Letter to the editor -- Austin American-Statesman

What's it all about?

The Washington Post published the last column written by Art Buchwald on Friday, January 19. The major theme in his farewell column is "What's it all about, Alfie?"

As I read the article, Will Spong, our late professor-emeritus of pastoral theology at Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest, came to mind.

I recalled Will singing that song while playing the piano during one of his theology of music performances. Will often drew on a wide range of music — New Orleans jazz to Harry Chapin — to reflect on the theology of songs. The third anniversary of his death is Feb. 4.
