The
Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest
Kevin
McGregor Clarke
Accomplished organist,
imaginative composer and skillful teacher, you have enriched the
life of the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation in Dallas, Texas,
through a vibrant and eclectic ministry of sacred music.
After earning the bachelor
of music degree from Rhode Island College and the Master's of
Music in organ
performance at the New England Conservatory of Music, you served
a year in Washington, D.C., as a fellow in church music at the
Washington National Cathedral. After a stint as Organist and Choirmaster
at St. John's Anglican Church, St. Croix, and study at Bristol
Cathedral in the United Kingdom, you returned to this country
and assisted at St. John the Divine Cathedral in Houston before
coming to the Church of the Incarnation in 1990.
The music program in this parish of 3,600 communicants reflects
your fondness for the Anglican music tradition. Your numerous
choirs perform an innovative mix of classical and contemporary
English works, in addition to many of your own compositions, during
parish services every Sunday.
Incarnation choir members
have been invited to sing in English cathedrals, including Westminster
Abbey, for two weeks every other summer in recent years. Your
ministry extended throughout Dallas during most of the 1990s when
you produced performances of services at the Church of the Incarnation
for airing on that city's classical radio station.
For your gifts of music
making and teaching while furthering the rich tradition of Anglican
music, we are pleased to confer upon you the degree of Doctor
of Humane Letters, honoris causa.
