| Café Julienne and Roaring Fork Restaurant - Both in the historic Stephen F. Austin Hotel, 701 Congress. Café Julienne offers a breakfast buffet and an extensive a la carte menu. Roaring Fork calls itself "an American Western Bistro and Saloon." Entrées $17 to $30 at the Fork. Café Julienne is open only for breakfast, 6:30 to 11:00 am. |
Fast food - For those who (like most of us) must eat badly in order to eat cheaply, many venues are available downtown: Quizno's Subs (922 Congress Ave.), Subway (809 Congress), Starbuck's (1001 Congress or 600 Congress), Wendy's (619 Congress), Chipotle Mexican Grill (801 Congress), Cozzoli's Pizza (704 Congress) , Murphy's Deli (600 Congress, open for breakfast and lunch only), Texadelphia, Philly Cheesesteaks (SE corner of 7th and Congress) and James Coney Island (609 Congress). If you don't get out of these places for less than $10, you ordered too much.

| Old Bakery and Emporium - 1006 Congress Ave. Unfortunately, the open hours are limited pretty much to mid-day. A historical venue in a historical building across from the capitol, the bakery is not only an old fashioned coffee shop which offers friendly service, sandwiches, coffee and soft drinks. The crafts on sale here are created by seniors who are using this project to supplement their income. |
