Walking, Running, Biking, and, mainly, Loafing
| Austin Hike and Bike Trails - These are off-road locations for hiking and biking. Many bike lanes are provided on city streets as well. Value bikers: they are not poisoning your air or endangering your life. |
Austin Parks - Consider, particularly, Eastwoods Park. Beside the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest, Eastwoods rests quietly on the edge of Waller Creek, and you may do the same. |
Mt. Bonnell - This, the highest declivity in the Balcones Fault, is a typical small mountain viewed from the East side, but the west side is a 785 foot cliff straight down to the edge of Town Lake. The top affords a wonderful view of Town Lake, Pennybacker Bridge, and the home of Michael Dell. You may ascend by the steep stairway built straight up the middle of the mountain, or you may walk more gradually up the pathway which begins at the north end of the mountain. To get to it, take 35th Street West till it becomes Mt. Bonnell Road and deposits you beside the mountain.

Deep Eddy Municipal Pool - An Olympic sized pool, spring-fed. 401 Deep Eddy Dr., 512-472-8546. You can see a movie at this pool: on Saturday nights after dark, classic cult films are shown over the heads of swimmers. |
| Schlitterbahn Water Park - Well, O.K. It's not in Austin. It's down I-35 an hour, in New Braunfels, Texas, but it's the closest jazzy water park for families with kids who like to slide down tubes and splash themselves silly. |
