Consumer Concerns - Anticonsumerism.com contains all the consumerism links formerly stashed here. Note especially the 1,000 links to anticonsumerism sites and 100 ways to beat consumerism. The section named "Resources" concerns a course on the Church against Consumerism presented in the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest beginning in the Spring, 2005. You could use these resources to design your own course on the subject.

Courses to take online
Barnes and Noble University   Free online courses (probably associated with books you might buy) on a wide array of subjects ranging from how to use particular kinds of software to Party Planning for the Festively Impaired, including literature, business and such. The list is limited, but probably growing fast. Go for it. Blackboard CourseSites  An enormous array of courses offered, many for credit at accredited institutions. Blackboard Resources - Lists books, web-resources, and other forms of information. Includes some full-text resources.

Economic Justice
Nickel and Dimed - Barbara Ehrenreich's bestselling report on the poverty of minimum-wage workers has now been turned into a play of the same name by Joan Holden. This page brings together people concerned with the issues raised. The Center for Public Policy Priorities (CPPP) - A nonpartisan, nonprofit think tank committed to improving public policies and private practices to better the economic and social conditions of low- and moderate-income Texans. The center pursues this mission through independent research, policy analysis and development, public education, advocacy, and technical assistance.
The center neither supports nor opposes any political party or candidate for office. It focuses solely on evaluating public policy as it affects low- and moderate-income Texans.
Economic Policy Institute - Provides research and education to promote a prosperouos, fair and sustainable economy. The Institute has a concern for the living standards of working people, and makes its findings available to the general public, the media and policy makers.
Texas AFL-CIO - Advocates for working people -- union and non-union alike -- in the political and legislative arenas. Coalition of Labor Union Women - America's only national organization for union women. These women lobby for better national policies for working women, not just in Congress but also in their own unions. Texas Low Income Housing Information Service - A nonprofit which supports low-income Texans' efforts to obtain a decent, affordable home.
Employee Benefit Research Institute - Concentrates on employee benefits and the laws related to them. Women's Economic Agenda Project - A national organization which works for a world in which all women and their families have the skills, shelter and nourishment they need to enjoy happy, healthy and productive lives. Minimum Wage - Questions and answers about the minimum wage (presently $5.15/hour) from the U.S. Department of Labor.
